A Tennessee-based company that makes ready-to-serve foods will invest $3.4 million and create 120 jobs in Marion County, where the state's jobless rate is the highest.
SoPakCo will begin processing and packaging a line of frozen food in conjunction with an unnamed major international food company for distribution to retailers throughout North America at the Mullins facility.
The expansion will bring the number of employees at the subsidiary of Unika Corp. to more than 600 between the company's Mullins and Bennettsville facilities. Bennettsville is in nearby Marlboro County, also in the Pee Dee.
Production will start this fall, and all of the new employees will work with the new line. Marion County's jobless rate in April stood at 9.5 percent. The state rate is 5.3 percent.
The company is coordinating with ready SC to create a two-week pre-employment training program to begin filling vacancies immediately.
