COLUMBIA, S.C. - A man serving a federal prison term related to the death of a South Carolina teenager has lost an appeal.
The 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Tuesday denied an appeal by 54-year-old Freddie Grant.
Grant wanted a reduction in his more than 17-year federal prison sentence on an ammunition charge. He has also been sentenced to 30 years in state prison for kidnapping and murder in the death of Gabbiee Swainson.
Gabbiee was 15 when she disappeared in 2012. Authorities say Grant dated her mother and used a key he claimed to have lost to enter the family's home and take Gabbiee from her bed as she slept.
Grant led authorities to the girl's body last year as part of a plea deal.
