People in the Charleston area will look up and see mostly sunny skies until the chance of thunderstorms increases Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

Meteorologists called for a high of 86 degrees on Tuesday. The normal high is about 87 degrees.

But that high mark will rise to about 92 on Thursday, when the storm risk also will go up.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 86. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 9 mph in the afternoon.

Tuesday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 68. Southwest wind 6 to 9 mph.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 89. West wind 7 to 11 mph.

Wednesday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 71. South wind 11 to 13 mph.

Thursday: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly sunny, with a high near 92. Southwest wind 11 to 17 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

Thursday night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly cloudy, with a low around 72. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent.

Friday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 89. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.

Saturday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 88. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent.
