Former South Carolina first lady Jenny Sanford has endorsed Meka Childs in the eight-way Republican primary for state Superintendent of Education.
Childs was a senior education policy adviser to then-Gov. Mark Sanford.
"I am excited to endorse Meka Childs for state Superintendent of Education," Jenny Sanford said in a media release Monday.
"I have known Meka for many years and working together, I found her to be incredibly bright, capable and energetic. Meka is passionate about the importance of education in South Carolina not only for the children of today but also for the economic well-being and future for us all."
Childs is a former public school teacher and past deputy superintendent of education. She is from Richland County. The primary is June 10.
