Three people were rescued early Monday after their overturned boat was discovered on Lake Moultrie.
Family members contacted the Berkeley County Rescue Squad Sunday night to report that three boaters had not returned from a trip in the area, Director Bill Salisbury said.
The Berkeley County Sheriff's Office searched several landings and found their Jeep and trailer at the Russellville Boat Landing. Members of the rescue squad and the state Department of Natural Resources took to the water using five boats.
They found the missing boat overturned in the middle of the lake at 1:30 a.m.
Salisbury said 20-year-old Calvin Cumbee II, 23-year-old Kaleb Caddell and 21-year-old Jessica Jessup were holding on to the boat. Two were wearing life jackets and the third was holding on to a cooler.
They told rescuers the boat overturned about 4 or 5 p.m.
The boaters were all taken to a local hospital after they were treated for exposure and hypothermia, Salisbury said.
