Rick Hendrick has added his name to yet another dealership's sign in West Ashley's so-called "Automile."
Lexus of Charleston has changed its name to Hendrick Lexus Charleston, nearly four years after the auto mogul bought the luxury car dealership at 2424 Savannah Highway.
The name change doesn't appear to signal any other transformations at the Lexus dealership.
"While our name has changed, our vehicles, our people and our level of service have not," said David B. Yarborough, general manager of Hendrick Lexus Charleston.
Hendrick bought the West Ashley dealership along with Gene Reed Toyota & Scion in North Charleston in 2010 from local auto dealer Gene Reed for more than $80 million.
It was reported that Hendrick told Reed after the deal was reached that he "loves" Charleston's automobile market.
"'They are well-run dealerships. You have a great market with good people and good franchises with new facilities. It will complement what I already have in Charleston,'" Hendrick was reported as saying.
The auto mogul also owns: Hendrick Honda, Rick Hendrick Chevrolet, Rick Hendrick Imports of Volvo, BMW and Mini, and Rick Hendrick Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep in West Ashley. In addition, he has Rick Hendrick Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep in North Charleston and the two local Hyundai dealerships.
