It's not quite the main course like last year, but Clemson-Georgia will provide a tasty primetime appetizer to help kick off the 2014 college football season.
The SEC and ESPN announced Friday afternoon a 5:30 p.m. start on ESPN for the Tigers and Bulldogs, who meet at Sanford Stadium in Athens on Aug. 30.
On opening Saturday of 2013, Death Valley was the setting for Georgia's visit to Clemson, which the Tigers won 38-35 in front of a national television audience on ABC for an 8 p.m. start. This time, it'll be an early evening kickoff on ESPN, leading into Wisconsin-LSU's 9 p.m. kick from Houston.
Georgia leads the all-time series with Clemson 41-18-4, including a 26-7-1 advantage Between the Hedges. The Tigers are 2-23-1 in Athens in the past 100 years.
Also announced by the SEC Friday was a week two primetime date for South Carolina, which will host East Carolina Sept. 6 at 7 p.m. on ESPN2. The Gamecocks are 12-5 all-time against ECU, though the Pirates took four of five matchups at Williams-Brice Stadium in the 1990s.
