A West Ashley bank was robbed at gunpoint Friday afternoon, according to Charleston police.
A man with a black pistol held up the First Citizens Bank at 1624 Sam Rittenberg about 4:15 p.m. while several customers were inside, police spokesman Charles Francis said.
The man ran out of the bank with an undisclosed amount of money and fled behind some businesses in the shopping center, he said.
Police released a surveillance photo of the suspect Friday afternoon. He is described as a heavyset, middle-aged man who could either be a light-skinned black man or a dark-skinned white man wearing a khaki fishing hat with a gray T-shirt with a pocket.
Anyone with information is asked to call central dispatch at 743-7200 and ask for the on-call detective.
