HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - Trial is set for a tow-truck driver accused of manslaughter in the shooting death of a man in Bluffton on Christmas Eve 2010.

The Island Packet of Hilton Head that 30-year-old Preston Oates will go on trial June 16 in the death of 34-year-old Carlos Olivera.

Oates is accused of killing Olivera during an argument over a boot Oates put on Olivera's minivan.

The trial has been delayed as Oates' lawyers argued that he should be protected by South Carolina's "castle doctrine," which protects people from prosecution if they kill someone while protecting themselves or others in their home, workplace or vehicle.

A judge ruled in 2012 the castle doctrine did not apply to Oates. The South Carolina Supreme Court said those appeals should come after a trial.
