Five Fort Johnson Middle School girls were hospitalized Thursday morning after an apparent overdose of some sort of pills or drug, according to authorities.
Emergency responders were sent to the James Island school after a report of possible overdoses. The students were reported to be in stable condition.
Four students were transported by ambulance to the Medical University Hospital and one student was transported to an area hospital by a parent, according to Charleston County sheriff's Maj. Eric Watson. They were 13 and 14 years old.
Deputies are working to determine when and where they may have taken the pills, Watson said.
Charleston County School District officials did not immediately provide more details.
