COLUMBIA - South Carolina's men's basketball team is adding some size to its front court.
The Gamecocks received a commitment from 6-foot-9 forward James Thompson, according to The Baton Rouge Advocate. Thompson, who played for Parkview Baptist in Baton Rouge, is expected to sign with the Gamecocks at 3 p.m. Thursday.
Thompson committed to South Carolina during a visit to Columbia last weekend, according to The Advocate.
As a senior last season, Thompson averaged 18 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks per game. He twice earned all-state honors from the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.
Thompson chose South Carolina despite having offers from LSU, Texas A&M, Kansas State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Memphis, according to The Advocate.
South Carolina's 2014 recruiting class now consists of four members. Thompson joins forward Shamiek Sheppard, as well as guards Marcus Stroman and TeMarcus Blanton.
