Charleston County sheriff's deputies on Tuesday asked for the public's help identifying a man who reportedly tried to withdraw cash from another man's bank account.
One of two surveillance images released by deputies showed a man at an ATM near the Citadel Mall. He man had short hair and a full beard and wore a blue T-shirt with a long-sleeved white shirt underneath.
According to an incident report, a second man told investigators that he lost his wallet sometime in March. The suspect, who the victim believed was named "Larry Green," deposited two checks for $361 and $560 into the bank account, then attempted to withdraw cash, the report said.
Investigators later determined that the name "Larry Green" was a fake name used by the suspect, sheriff's Maj. Eric Watson said.
