EDITOR'S NOTE: An earlier version of this story misidentified one of two suspects in an armed robbery to a Kangaroo gas station, 5154 North Rhett Ave. in North Charleston. The suspects in that robbery are Jeffrey James Kirk, 21, of Old Saybrook Road, and David Craig Zeigel, 18, of Westcott Boulevard in Summerville.
Authorities believe one man committed three separate armed robberies in the Charleston area.
Jeffrey James Kirk, 21, of Old Saybrook Road, was being held at the Cannon Detention Center Tuesday charged with three counts of armed robbery and three counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.
The charges were issued in connection with robberies Sunday and Monday in Charleston, North Charleston and Charleston County jurisdictions, Charleston police spokesman Charles Francis said.
According to Francis, Charleston police responded around 1 p.m. Sunday to Russell's Exxon gas station, 2209 Savannah Hwy., concerning an armed robbery.
Witnesses reported that a man with a pistol walked into the store and demanded money from the clerk, Francis said. A second suspect waited by the door during the robbery, he said.
Charleston police also charged 16-year-old Caylin Giglio, of Equinox Circle in Ladson, in connection with that incident.
That case remains under investigation, Francis said.
According to North Charleston police spokesman Spencer Pryor, investigators linked Kirk to a second armed robbery that occurred shortly after 10 a.m. Monday at a Kangaroo gas station, 5154 North Rhett Ave.
A witness reported to police that two suspects stormed into the store and yelled "Give me all of the (expletive) money!"
One of the suspects made gestures as though he had a gun, but no weapon was shown, an incident report said.
The suspects stole about $90 in cash and fled the scene in a small black car with tinted windows, police said.
A similar robbery occurred around noon that day at Kangaroo Express at 897 Folly Road, sheriff's deputies reported. Two suspects with a gun stole about $60 and fled down Camp Road, deputies said.
North Charleston police pulled over a car that matched the description of the suspect vehicle Monday afternoon on Ashley Phosphate Road.
Kirk and his passenger, David Craig Zeigel, 18, of Westcott Boulevard in Summerville, were taken into custody and charged in connection with the North Charleston robbery, according to the report.
