COLUMBIA - For the fifth straight year, South Carolina will host an NCAA baseball tournament regional. The Gamecocks on Sunday night were named as one of the 16 host teams for the first round of the tournament May 30-June 2.
The 16 host sites for the NCAA baseball tournament May 30-June 2 (full 64-team field and top eight national seeds announced Monday at noon on ESPNU):
The other 15 host teams are Cal Poly, Florida, Florida State, Indiana, Louisville, Louisiana-Lafayette, LSU, Miami, Mississippi, Oklahoma State, Oregon State, Rice, TCU, Vanderbilt and Virginia.
"We are ecstatic to be hosting a regional at Carolina Stadium for the fifth straight year," Gamecocks coach Chad Holbrook said. "I'm very proud of our players, coaches and staff and the work they have put forward to be in this position. We know Gamecock Nation will be ready to go, and we are excited to be playing at home in front of the best college baseball fans in the country."
The eight national seeds and full 64-team field - including Colonial Athletic Association champion College of Charleston and possibly Clemson - will be announced at noon Monday on ESPNU.
The Gamecocks probably had to win one SEC tournament game to receive a top eight national seed, receiving home-field advantage through the super regionals. But after an 0-2 showing in Hoover, Ala., that opportunity appears lost.
South Carolina fell from No. 8 in the NCAA's Ratings Percentage Index entering the SEC Tournament to No. 14 in the WarrenNolan.com updated RPI on Sunday.
Tickets in tournament books or by the game for the Columbia Regional games will go on sale Monday at 10 a.m.
Single game tickets will be sold for $15, but there is no guarantee on their availability.
