A 17-year-old fell off a boat and died at a Mount Pleasant Marina early Saturday morning.
The coroner's office did not release his name Saturday pending notification of extended family members, but the family published his obituary on a funeral home's website Saturday afternoon.
Hugh Willcox Buyck Jr., 17, son of Meredith and Hugh Buyck of Mount Pleasant, died as result of a boating accident, according to the obituary from Stuhr's Mount Pleasant chapel. He played basketball at Porter-Gaud School and attended Wando High School. He was a crucifier and acolyte at St. Michael's Church.
Mount Pleasant police officers were called to the docks at Toler's Cove Marina about 4:15 a.m. after being told that a man had fallen off a boat and into the water, according to a news release from the police department.
Members of the Mount Pleasant Fire Department, the Charleston County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad, the Coast Guard, the S.C. Department of Natural Resources and the Charleston County Sheriff's Office Marine Patrol joined Mount Pleasant police officers in the search.
Rescuers found the body around 6 a.m. and notified the Charleston County Coroner's Office.
