JOINT BASE CHARLESTON, S.C. - The 437TH Airlift Wing at Joint Base Charleston is bidding farewell to Col. Darren Hartford and welcoming a new commander.
Air Force spokesman Staff Sgt. Anthony Hyatt says Col. John Lamontagne takes charge of the 2,200-member wing in a ceremony scheduled for Thursday at 10 a.m.
Since Hartford took command in 2012, the wing flew more than 21,000 sorties, transported 224,000 tons of war material and transported 121,000 passengers. This was more than any other such wing in the Air Mobility Command.
Hartford takes command of the 479th Air Expeditionary Wing at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar.
Lamontagne is coming from the same base, where he oversaw air deliveries throughout the U.S. military's Mideast and Southwest Asian area of responsibility.
