Eight local students are among 68 high school seniors in South Carolina set to graduate this year with perfect attendance.

The list includes three students from Summerville High School: Brandon Lee Boykin, Samantha Nadine Hucks, and Laura Michelle Lyon. Also included are: T'Mani Jade Eady of Stratford, Christopher James Bennett of West Ashley, Katelin Hills of Academic Magnet, and Marquis Arnez Richardson and Kevin Lamar Washington, both of Ashley Ridge.

They have attended school throughout their entire academic careers without missing a single day.

"These extraordinary students are to be commended for their dedication," said state Superintendent of Education Mick Zais. "Going to school for over 2,000 days consecutively is an incredible achievement, and I'd like to recognize the tireless dedication these students and their families showed to their education."

In South Carolina, students are allowed to miss up to 10 school days per academic year. Since 1979, students with 12 years of perfect school attendance have been recognized by the South Carolina Department of Education on an annual basis. This year's seniors received certificates and congratulatory letters from Dr. Zais.
