A man was fatally shot in North Charleston Wednesday night, according to police.
Officers were called to 4659 West Montague Ave. shortly after 7 p.m., police spokesman Spencer Pryor said. A man had been shot and was transported to MUSC where he was pronounced dead.
According to witnesses, a car nearly struck the victim as it was leaving a mobile home park. The victim reportedly hit the car and confronted the driver, leading to an altercation in which the driver fired shots, according to Pryor.
Dustin Quadrell Backman was arrested a short distance from the scene. He has been charged with murder and the investigation continues, according to Pryor.
