SAVANNAH - Charleston RiverDogs infielder Mike Ford's career-high and team-best 15-game on-base streak ended as Kevin McGowan pitched a personal-best seven scoreless innings in a 6-0 two-hit shutout for Savannah at Historic Grayson Stadium in South Atlantic League action on Monday night.
The Sand Gnats (29-14) scored two runs in each of the first three innings, including a two-run blast by Jorge Rivero in the second inning.
The RiverDogs (23-20) could only muster two hits against McGowan. Aaron Judge doubled off the right-field wall to open the fourth inning but was stranded after three straight outs.
Tyler Wade collected a leadoff single in the sixth and worked his way to third base before an inning-ending fly out.
McGowan (2-1) has not allowed an earned run in his last 251/3 innings.
The finale of the four-game series is set for Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. RiverDogs RHP Jaron Long (2-1, 2.59 ERA) is scheduled to face Sand Gnats RHP Ricky Knapp (2-2, 3.41 ERA).
