A Charleston police transportation officer was arrested Tuesday after a woman said he reached under her skirt while he was transporting her to jail.
Kermit A. Jenkins, 43, was charged with second-degree sexual misconduct and booked into the Charleston County jail.
Jenkins is accused of fondling the woman between 2 and 3 a.m. May 4, according to Charleston police spokesman Charles Francis.
The woman filed a complaint with the department's professional standards office May 6. Kermit was placed on administrative duties with pay that day. His pay was terminated May 14, and he was fired after his arrest, Francis said.
Jenkins is not a sworn police officer and was hired Dec. 17, 2012, Francis said.
