COLUMBIA - Fort Dorchester senior Jasmine Quinn set a state record in the girls long jump Friday night the state track and field championships at Spring Valley High School.
Quinn uncorked a leap of 20 feet, 21/4 inches to break the previous record of 19-111/2 set in 1982 by Annette Alston of Winyah High School.
Angelica Collins of Wando was second among Class AAAA girls with an effort of 20 feet, one inch, also bettering the former record.
In AAA girls, James Island junior Makyla Stanley won the long jump at 19-6. And the Trojans' Hailey Sweatman won the pole vault at 11-0.
Quinn won four titles at last year's state meet, in the long jump, 100 meters, 200 meters and 110-meter hurdles.
The meet continues Saturday.
