BEAUFORT, S.C. - Stopping in Beaufort will get a bit nicer for people meandering by boat along the Intracoastal Waterway on the South Carolina coast.
The city is planning about $300,000 worth of repairs to the transient dock at its Downtown Marina.
The Beaufort Gazette reports repairs are being made with the help of a $190,000 federal grant.
The dock on the outside of the marina takes a pounding from wind and waves. It was built more than 20 years ago and since has had only routine maintenance.
The deck and other parts of the dock will be replaced. The marina has more than 1,100 feet of floating dock that can handle as many as 36 transient boats. Under the federal grant, the work must be finished by the end of 2015.
