WHITESBURG, Ky. - A candidate for sheriff in eastern Kentucky is spending the days leading up to the primary election on May 20 in jail.
"Walking Tall" Jon Hall of Neon in Letcher County was arrested on April 28 for contempt of court. A judge sentenced him to 60 days in jail for missing his jury trial on a charge of terroristic threatening.
Hall told media this week that he wasn't trying to skip out, he was just really late because of a mistake and a busy schedule.
Officials say the charge doesn't affect his eligibility for office. However, it has slowed down his ability to campaign.
Even so, Hall says he hasn't thought about dropping out.
Hall is running in the Democratic primary against incumbent Sheriff Danny Webb and two others.
