Rescuers on Thursday morning looked for the owner of an unmanned watercraft that was found in the Ashley River near Magnolia Plantation, fire officials said.

A North Charleston Fire Department boat responded around 6:42 a.m. to the river near Lambs Road in North Charleston, which is across from the plantation at 3550 Ashley River Road in West Ashley.

Fire Department spokeswoman Bianca Bourbeau said nobody was on the Jet Ski personal watercraft that was towed back to shore.

Rescuers and police officers were trying to figure out whether someone had fallen off the watercraft or if it had gotten loose from where it had been docked, Bourbeau said.

The Coast Guard also was monitoring the situation. A petty officer said rescuers were on the lookout for anyone who might have been in the water.
