Lea Anne Brown of Mount Pleasant overcome a three-shot deficit going into the final round and beat Ashley Rose of Aiken in a playoff to win her second Women's South Carolina Golf Association Senior Championship on Wednesday at the Country Club of Spartanburg.
The two tied at 7-over-par 151 in regulation. Brown had rounds of 74 and 77 while Rose shot 71 and 80.
Rose seemed headed toward victory with three birdies on the front nine but opened the door with three bogeys and a double bogey on the back nine.
Brown caught Rose with two back-nine birdies and had an opportunity to win in regulation when her putt lipped out on the 18th, sending the two into the playoff. Brown parred the extra hole and Rose made bogey. Brown, a member of the South Carolina Golf Hall of Fame, also won the Senior Championship in 2010.
Jackie Bennett of Kiawah Island Club finished second in Championship Flight 4 with a score of 174, two strokes behind Mary Chamberlin of Rock Hill. Robin Moyer of RiverTowne Country Club was third in Championship Flight 5. Betty Poore of Wild Dunes Resort was third in Championship Flight 6.
