Hit-and-run crash kills 17-year-old pedestrian near Pineville

Troopers were trying to figure out who fatally struck a 17-year-old man and left the crash scene late Monday near Pineville.

Local resident Clyde Cleveland Jr. died at the scene on S.C. Highway 45 near Secondary Road 35, according to the Berkeley County Coroner's Office.

Cleveland was walking down Highway 45 when a vehicle struck him around 9:30 p.m., Coroner Bill Salisbury said.

The Coroner's Office and the S.C. Highway Patrol were investigating the crash.

"The vehicle that struck the pedestrian left the scene," Highway Patrol Cpl. Sonny Collins said. "Right now, we don't have any leads."
