Citadel baseball has had a disappointing season thus far, but the Bulldogs still have a shot at one noteworthy achievement.
The Citadel can take a season sweep of No. 17 South Carolina with a victory in Tuesday's 7 p.m. game in Columbia.
The Bulldogs defeated USC, 10-8, in a game at Riley Park on April 16. The Citadel has not swept the Gamecocks in a season series since 2009, when the Bulldogs won by scores of 12-5 and 5-3.
The Citadel (20-31) has lost two straight games and five of its last six, and will send sophomore Nate Brecklin (0-0, 6.48 earned-run average) to the mound against South Carolina (39-13).
The Gamecocks have won four straight and are coming off a sweep of SEC foe Missouri.
The Citadel wraps up the regular season with a three-game series against UNC Greensboro at Riley Park starting Thursday. The Southern Conference tournament is set for May 20-25 at Riley Park.
