A domestic disturbance ended in a head-on collision Sunday afternoon following a vehicle chase on Maybank Highway, according to the Charleston County Sheriff's Office.
The incident began shortly before 3:50 p.m. when deputies responded to a domestic dispute at a house on Johns Island where a woman was trying to force her way into the home, said Maj. Eric Watson. The woman fled the scene and caused an accident at the intersection of Maybank Highway and River Road. When the woman failed to stop for deputies, a vehicle pursuit ensued.
Witnesses said the pursuit ended with a head-on collision. Watson said the crash occurred near the Berkeley Coop on Maybank Highway. Several people, including the woman, sustained injuries and were transported to Medical University Hospital. Roads in the area were blocked for about an hour.
South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Charleston County Sheriff's Office are investigating the incident. Watson did not release the woman's name or details about any pending charges.
