A Johns Island man was struck and killed Friday morning while walking on a road in Berkeley County, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.
The pedestrian was identified as 22-year-old James Allen Clarkin, according to Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury. Clarkin was hit about 5:15 am. while walking on Clements Ferry Road near Jack Primus Road, Salisbury said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Clarkin was wearing dark clothing and walking in the middle of the road, Senior Trooper Hannah Wimberly said. He was hit by a 2013 Chevy pickup headed north, she said.
Investigators determined that the pedestrian contributed to the wreck, Wimberly said.
