Everyone who loved, cared about, prayed for and otherwise supported Ethen Richardson is invited to a celebration of his life Saturday.
The Team Ethen Celebration of Life, as his family is calling it, will begin rain or shine at 4 p.m. at Awendaw Green, the popular outdoor gathering and music spot at 4879 N. Highway 17 in Awendaw.
Ethen died Wednesday at age 8 after battling a diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma, a highly aggressive and inoperable brainstem cancer. He was diagnosed last summer, and his battle drew prayers and followers from around the country.
His family is asking people joining them Saturday to bring lawn chairs, coolers and a mood of celebration to enjoy live music, entertainment, jump castles, face painting, food, cotton candy - and, of course, lots of Ethen's favorite bacon.
On Ethen's public Facebook page, his family recalled one of his favorite sayings: "This is going to be amazing!"
Team Ethen supporters will release red Chinese lanterns between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. to honor his life. People following his family's Facebook updates posted comments Thursday from around the country promising to release lanterns at the same time.
