The seventh annual McDonald's Choir Showcase featuring gospel choirs, worship groups and recording artists from across the region is slated for Mother's Day weekend.
What had been a one-day Christian fellowship event is growing this year into a two-day event to be held Saturday and Sunday at the North Charleston Performing Arts Center, event founders Gerald Footman and Tia Brewer-Footman announced.
This year's event headliners include Grammy Award-winners Dorinda Clark-Cole and LeAndria Johnson, who was the season three winner of the BET gospel singing competition show "Sunday Best," the show's season two runner-up Jessica Reedy, among others.
For the first time, the event will feature a Music Ministry Summit, a day of clinics and sessions for aspiring musicians. The sessions will be conducted by gospel artists, singers and songwriters including Kevin LeVar and Ashaala Shanae and feature a variety of industry experts.
The summit will be held Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tickets are $20.
The McDonald's Choir Showcase will be held Sunday starting with a pre-show at 6 p.m. followed by the debut of Boeing Co.'s employee-based gospel choir at 7 p.m.
The showcase is open to Charleston area church choirs, praise and worship teams and Christian contemporary groups seeking a chance to be one of nine winners across the three categories to perform live at an event finale with top gospel artists.
Choir showcase tickets are $25 for VIP seating and $10 for general seating (plus a service fee). They are available through the Performing Arts Center box office and Ticketmaster locations.
