ISLE OF PALMS - An almost 180-pound loggerhead sea turtle has been released on the coast after a year of rehabilitation.

The South Carolina Aquarium on Monday released the juvenile the turtle named Huntington on the Isle of Palms. It was the first public turtle release of the season.

Huntington was seen floating and unable to dive off Huntington Beach State Park along the state's north coast on May 30. A family recognized that the behavior was odd and called the S.C. Department of Natural Resources.

The turtle was brought to the Sea Turtle Hospital at the aquarium for treatment of low levels of protein, an intestinal blockage and anemia.

Huntington weighed about 145 pounds when it arrived. By mid-October, the loggerhead was back to a healthy weight.

The turtle continued recovering until the veterinarian in April cleared it for release.
