A national education website has recognized Buist Academy as one of the nation's top 50 middle schools.
TheBestSchools.org ranked Buist 44th out of 50 middle schools from across the country. Buist is the only South Carolina middle school to make the list.
Best Schools used National Assessment of Educational Progress test scores in science, math, and reading for eighth-graders as a primary factor in the rankings. Other factors included academic performance, state standardized test scores, geographical diversity and other rankings and awards each school has received.
Buist Academy for Advanced Studies is a K-8, countywide International Baccalaureate magnet school that serves almost 500 students. Buist students begin learning French or Spanish in kindergarten and continue studying the language throughout their time at the academy. The school's curriculum is divided into themes including humanities, the sciences, mathematics, the arts, technology and physical education.
Buist was previously ranked by SchoolDigger.com as the best middle school in the state. The school has also been rated as an "excellent school" and given an "A" rating based on federal requirements according to the Elementary and Secondary Education Act.
