A Charleston County School District work group committee that has been investigating the need for a second high school in Mount Pleasant is holding two public meetings to receive community input on the issue.
The first meeting will take place at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Cario Middle School at 3500 Thomas Cario Blvd. in Mount Pleasant. The second meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. May 12 at Moultrie Middle at 645 Coleman Blvd.
Kate Darby, who chairs the work group committee, has said the group believes a second high school will be needed in the town by 2019. The committee is recommending a school with capacity for about 1,500 students be built at the site of the Wando football stadium at the old Wando campus on Mathis Ferry Road.
Each of the meetings will include a presentation on the group's recommendation as well as a period for public comment. The group will send its final recommendation to the school board later this year.
