Charleston State Rep. Wendell Gilliard and girlfriend Michelle Shaw were out for a coastal drive Sunday when they saw a big alligator up close.
The pair was just leaving the Sandy Island boat landing in Georgetown County when they spotted a large gator sunning itself on the warmth of the road pavement.
They shot cellphone video as the animal rose, turned and stepped back into the rain-swollen swamp.
No size estimate was available but gators are active creatures.
