Charleston last night didn't add any medals to its collection of James Beard Foundation awards, with both local nominees falling to perennial favorites.
Nancy Silverton of Los Angeles' Pizzeria Mozza, who won the foundation's pastry chef award back in 1990, finally made good on multiple nominations in the outstanding chef category, beating out Sean Brock of Husk and McCrady's. And FIG's wine program lost to The Barn at The Inn at Blackberry Farm in Walland, Tenn.
Ashley Christensen of Poole's Diner in Raleigh, N.C. received the award for Best Chef-Southeast. Although Charleston chefs have thrice claimed the award, the city didn't have any contenders in this year's competition.
