Nuovo Cinema Italiano Film Festival, the annual celebration of new Italian cinema that runs at the Sottile Theatre in the fall, is throwing a preview party and fundraiser 5:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday at the College of Charleston's, New Science Building, 202 Calhoun St.
The event pays tribute to the recent success of Paolo Sorrentino's "La grande bellezza" ("The Great Beauty"), which won this year's Oscar for Best Foreign Film. The movie will be shown on a large-screen TV during the party, which will include light hors d'oeuvres and prosecco cocktails as well as a raffle.
Guests are encouraged to dress like Jep Gambardella, the main character in the movie. Women who don a Panama hat and men who wear a read or yellow Jep jacket or Panama hat will be eligible to win free tickets to the November festival.
The fundraiser costs $30 for festival members, $50 per couple. Nonmembers pay $40 per person, $60 per couple.
