When police searched a Charleston home Thursday they found heroin, cash and a handgun, resulting in two arrests, according to police.

Torris J. Simmons, 37, of Sorentrue Avenue in North Charleston and Dale Lavron Smith, 42, of Reid Street are charged with possession of heroin with the intent to distribute and distribution of a controlled substance within close proximity of a school.

Police discovered 1.14 grams of heroin, more than $500 in cash and a handgun at the Indian Street home, authorities said.
