A lockdown of five North Charleston schools has been lifted after it was put into place Friday afternoon as a precaution while police investigated a report of shots fired near the area, according to Charleston County School District officials.

The following schools were placed on administrative lockdown at 1:15 p.m.: School of the Arts, Academic Magnet High School, Liberty Hall Academy, North Charleston Creative Arts and Hursey Elementary.

The lockdown was lifted at around 2:20 p.m.

The school was alerted to the "code yellow," which means school leaders were closely monitoring the activity around the school, according to district spokesman Jason Sakran.

North Charleston police ere investigating the report, according to police spokesman Spencer Pryor.
