A Mount Pleasant police officer approaches a car stopped on the Ravenel bridge Friday afternoon after police said the driver led an officer on a chase.

A man running from police tied up traffic on the Ravenel bridge Friday afternoon, according to the Mount Pleasant Police Department.

A Mount Pleasant police officer tried to stop a car for reckless driving on Coleman Boulevard near Whilden Street about 4:17 p.m., Inspector Chip Googe said. The car took off, with the officer in pursuit, and stopped on the bridge. The suspect was taken into custody without incident, Googe said.

The man's name was not immediately released.

Two lanes heading toward Charleston were closed during the incident. Traffic remained backed up during rush hour.
