Academic Magnet scored seven runs in the second inning and rode the pitching of Jake Sossamon and Beckham Watkins to a 10-0 win over Silver Bluff to open the Class AA baseball playoffs Thursday night at Collins Park.
The Region 6-AA Raptors (9-8) will host either Bishop England or Bamberg-Ehrhardt in the second round of the District VI tournament. That game was postponed by rain until 7 p.m. Friday in Bamberg.
Ryan Berlinsky delivered a two-run single in the second inning, and Reaves Wannamaker, Kyle Davis and Josh Isaacks also drove in runs with singles for the Raptors, who are 8-0 against Class AA teams this season.
Sossamon pitched three innings for the victory, striking out three and allowing one hit while walking none. Watkins pitched the final three innings for the save.
Adam Ackerman had two hits for the Raptors, scoring twice and driving in a run.
