Chase through Mount Pleasant leads authorities to submerged vehicle, sheriff's deputies say

A chase through Mount Pleasant Thursday led authorities to a submerged vehicle in Berkeley County's Green Bay community, officials said.

A Mount Pleasant police officer around 10:30 a.m. attempted to stop a vehicle for reckless driving on U.S. Highway 17, but the driver refused to pull over, police spokesman Chip Googe said.

The officer chased the vehicle toward S.C. Highway 41 and into Berkeley County, Googe said.

The pursuit ended when authorities located the unoccupied vehicle submerged in Berkeley County's Green Bay community, sheriff's Maj. Rick Ollic said.

Investigators searched the area but failed to locate the driver Thursday afternoon.
