What was it like to lose a childhood because of the Holocaust?
That was the question that inspired local middle- and high-school students to create artwork for the annual Holocaust Creative Arts & Writing Competition.
The competition is organized by the Charleston Jewish Federation. It's part of the Remember Program for Holocaust and Genocide Education.
The artwork was on display during April at the Charleston County Library's main branch. Winners were announced Wednesday night at the library.
First-place winners received $100, second place $50, third place $25 and a TBonz gift certificate for honorable mention.
The middle-school first-place winners are:
Visual arts: Hannah Morgan, Cario Middle School
Creative writing: Alexis Almy, Alston Middle School
Multimedia: Skylar Baraso, Cario Middle School
The high-school first place winners were:
Visual arts: Rebecca Graver, Cane Bay High School
