The first of a series of community meetings will be held Wednesday for a proposed new charter school in downtown Charleston.
The proposed Allegro Charter School for Music would serve students in grades 6-12 and provide an academic curriculum that focuses on music and creativity.
The first of four informational meetings will be held Wednesday from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Main Branch of the Charleston County Public Library at 68 Calhoun St. A second meeting will be held at the library May 20 at 5:30 p.m. Additional meetings will be held May 3 from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Arthur W. Christopher Community Center at 256 Fishburne St. and May 14 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Marshall Walker Real Estate at 582 Rutledge Ave.
Organizers for Allegro Charter School for Music are in the process of applying for sponsorship with the Charleston County School District. The application deadline is July 1. Organizers are hoping to launch the school for the 2015-2016 school year.
