A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of strong-arm robbery after a woman was attacked and her purse stolen in downtown Charleston last month.

Monterio Brown, of Florida Avenue in North Charleston, has been charged with the felony count.

The victim told police she was getting her keys out of her purse to enter her apartment on Magazine Street about 10 p.m. March 19 when a man hit her on the top of the head with his closed fist and grabbed her purse. The woman kneed the man in the groin and pushed him away, but he got away with the purse, according to the incident report.

Brown was being held in the Charleston County jail Tuesday night.
