Firefighters were called to Jestine's Sweet Shop Sunday night after someone inside the store discovered a fire.
Firefighters responded to 54 1/2 Wentworth Street near Meeting Street at 7:14 p.m. to find smoke coming from the store.
Capt. Ryan Kunitzer, of the Charleston Fire Department, said apartments above the store were evacuated while firefighters contained the blaze. No one was injured.
The fire was contained to the shop which sustained fire damage in the rear of the store and heavy smoke damage through out, Kunitzer said.
Meeting Street between Hassell and Society streets, and Wentworth Street between Meeting and King streets were closed for a period of time Sunday while firefighters contained the blaze.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
