A fresh seafood market is heading to downtown Charleston's East Bay Street.
Kyle Norton and Jesse Sandole, both in their mid-20s, have partnered on their first foray into the retail business with 167 Raw, a small seafood shop with a catering operation at 289 East Bay, across from Harris Teeter supermarket.
Named for Sandole's catering company in Nantucket, Mass., 167 Raw will center on local and New England seafood such as cod and halibut. It also will have a small kitchen where fish tacos, lobster rolls and other casual bites will be prepared to order. The 700-square-foot space includes a four-seat counter for dine-in patrons.
Norton said the catering arm is more of a traveling raw bar than a full-service catering firm. At special events, Sandole and Norton set up a small wooden boat, fill it with ice and display cocktail shrimp and half-shell clams. They hope to open by June.
Tokyo Crepes, a Folly Beach-based food truck that specializes in crepes with an Asian food flair, has its first storefront in the works.
Owners Yukari Yada and John Baker soon will open a Tokyo Crepes shop at 62 Spring St. in downtown Charleston. The food truck will still sell crepes from its usual Folly Beach spot at 110 E. Ashley Ave., but Yada said the new storefront will help them draw in business during the colder months of the year.
Anna Glac, a floral designer who has created arrangements for the Sanctuary at Kiawah Island Golf Resort and the peninsula's Francis Marion Hotel, also will open a storefront in downtown Charleston this week.
Anna Bella Florals at 217 Calhoun St. will mark the occasion from noon-4 p.m. Saturday with refreshments, a flower arrangement presentation and promotions. The florist will continue working with hotels and restaurants in the Charleston area, but Glac said the new store will expand her ability to work with brides and other private clients.
National Free Comic Book Day is Saturday, which means participating comic shops will give away one free comic book to each customer. Local participants listed at www.freecomicbookday.com are: Captain's Comics and Toys at 1209-D Sam Rittenberg Blvd. in West Ashley; Green Dragon at 7671 Northwoods Blvd. in North Charleston; and Soundwave Music & Movies at 2139-B N. Main St. in Summerville. Participating stores will offer sales, prizes, contests and other promotions during the event.
