The Charleston Fire Department rescued a boater who was hanging onto the side of a small capsized boat in the Ashley River Thursday.
The fire department and several other agencies were dispatched at 5:14 p.m. following a 911 call. The caller, who was not identified, donned a life jacket and went into the water to try and help the man in distress, according to the fire department.
The fire department boat Louis Behrens then arrived on the scene, roughly between the Coast Guard base and the City Marina, and pulled the unidentified man on board.
Back at the dock, the man was transferred to Charleston County EMS and taken to a local hospital. No further information was available, including the nature of his injuries.
