A firm connected to the health care industry will bring 615 jobs to Aiken County.
Medac Inc., a provider of revenue cycle and practice management services and information products to anesthesia-related health care providers, plans to establish the company's headquarters in North Augusta.
With its $12 million investment, the company will streamline operations of three facilities into a single, consolidated facility. Medac will move to a two-story, 60,000-square-foot building in the city's riverfront development area, located near the North Augusta Municipal Center.
The company began as Medical Bureau Inc., a multi-specialty billing company providing services to an array of medical fields, in 1986 by Kam Memar. He was joined by his brother Bijon in 1989.
In 1992 the brothers realized the need for specialization in the anesthesiology sector, and Medac Inc. was born in Augusta with only eight employees. Today, Medac has more than 550 employees nationwide. The company is considered the second-largest privately held anesthesia billing company in the country, with a presence in 37 states.

"Medac has spent more than 10 years researching locations where we could combine our offices and increase operational and environmental efficiencies," said Bijon Memar, Medac founder and president.
"We couldn't be more excited that Medac Inc. has decided to establish its company headquarters in South Carolina," Gov. Nikki Haley said. "(It) will have a positive impact on the whole of the state and especially the local community."
