Fresh off a third straight championship at the prestigious Palmetto Cup tournament last week, Wando High School's boys soccer team is ranked No. 1 in the nation.
The Warriors (17-0-1) defeated the previous No. 1 team, Farragut High of Knoxville, Tenn., by 2-1 in the Palmetto Cup finals and are ranked No. 1 in the Fab 50 by studentsports.com.
Junior Josh Masten was named the Palmetto Cup tournament most valuable player as Wando defeated Gaffney, Dreher, Blythewood, Irmo and Farragut to become the first team to win the Palmetto Cup three straight years. Junior Nick Wright scored both goals in a 2-0 win over Irmo in the semifinals.
Senior Darby Martens, who has signed with College of Charleston, also made the all-tournament team.
The only blemish on the Warriors' record thus far is a 2-2 draw with Academic Magnet during the Raising Cane's Carolina Classic to start the season.
